I have a question about Biology 2 and lab. I am a neuroscience major at T10 school and my advisor claims that Neuro Cell Systems (3 credits) course and Neuroscience Lab (3 credits) count for Biology 2 and lab 2. So, I have not taken general Biology 2 and Lab 2. I have taken several biology and neuroscience classes such as General Biology I, General Biology Lab I, Neuroscience, Neuro Cellular Systems 1, Neuro Cellular Systems 2, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Neuroscience Lab, and three other upper-level neuroscience courses. I also have 9 research credits in neuroscience.

Is it okay to skip Biology 2 and lab? I have a scope to take if needed. I am aiming for T20 schools. My stats are 3.96 cGPA, 3.93 sGPA, and 522 MCAT. Thanks in advance.

Did your advisor say this specifically in regards to premed reqs? Afaik bio lab 2 isn’t required but bio 2 definitely is. I would confirm this with your prehealth advising office since I’m just an applicant.

Although, I took the honors sequence of bio 1 and 2 in my school and they’re denoted as genetics 1 and 2 instead of bio 1 and 2 so they might be right? Idk wouldn’t wanna risk it though

Welcome to the forums.

Is this your academic advisor or your prehealth advisor?

I don't know your transcript or your neuroscience major course sequence. Have you taken AP Biology (or IB or similar) and received credit for it? Even at a top undergraduate institution, you may have gotten credit and just need some didactic lab experience, but that's dependent on the schools you will be applying to... not just the medical school/s that accept/s most of your peers every year.

I have friends who were biomedical engineering majors that didn't end up taking bio 2, but were able to use biology focused biomedical engineering courses to cover the pre-medical requirements. As a neuroscience major, I imagine that a lot of your neuro classes can be classified as biology credits.

Thank you for your quick reply. It's by my prehealth advisor and even the prehealth advising website says so. But my question is what happens if medical schools are unaware of it? I have not used AP Biology credits because I scored 4. My major requirement is to complete only one biology and associated lab and I met that requirement.

If adcoms are not aware, we look up the website of your prehealth advising office.

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes, my prehealth advisor said so and even the prehealth advising website mentioned it.

Oh seems like you’re fine then🙂 I haven’t had any trouble with my bio prereqs either so I assume they find out it fits
