Depends on the school. I didn't take it until after I applied, and the schools that didn't require it, didn't seem to care.

It will totally help you. I was told that you have to learn major biochem in dental school. It's good to get a heads start. I'm a biochem major anyway, so I took the entire biochem series at my university. It's not that bad...way easier than physical chemistry.

pchem sucks major donkey nads...required lots of studying, which i was totally against...

Only to clarify--biochemistry is not a prereq. for Boston U. In order to fulfill one's biology requirements, it is suggested, but not required.

Oh yeah, it is impossible. Lots of math. Very hard to understand.

Bummer 😡
Biochemistry doesnot require math. It requires common sense and basic mathematics principles. Addition, substraction etc etc. It is the easiest subject when you handle it with patience and try to learn it with interest. 👍

That reminds me why I'm only minoring in chemistry. 😉miravyn said:Oh yeah, it is impossible. Lots of math. Very hard to understand.
It is a prereq for Tufts.
I took this course pass/fail since it did not count for credit towards my major at my university. The admissions people from Tufts told me that I would not be eligible unless I retook it. 🙁

Its also a prereq for Indiana as well....and I too took Biochemistry pass/fail (IU said the same thing to me about the pass/fail not class not counting) at a university (last summer) where I was struggling to get a B early on only to find out I needed to take it (again) for a grade. I took it this last semester and received a B (too bad I didnt put more effort in...I was pretty close to an A but lost motivation after getting accepted) and am glad I am done with it! I think it depends on the professor, amount covered, and the depth that your prof gets into which can make a difference when taking it in dental school (personally my professor was cool but he kind of touched the surface and I dont know that I feel 100% comfortable going in...we didnt get into the nitty gritty of mechanisms but I am also grateful that he didnt torture us). Who knows? Maybe I am more prepared than I think...but we shall see.
I think even if it isnt required by some schools it is definitely an important class to take to help put some concepts together...micro is also good to take before starting (or so I hear).
