Hi Guys!!! I recently found out that my college offers a bachelors degree in bio-engineering. What are your thoughts on this degree?? I'm not sure I want to go to medical school. I like medicine but I don't like that you have to wait 4 years before medical school studying for a degree that might not even get you a good job so you spend college worrying about your future. I like medicine and I like engineering so this degree seems perfect. Also, I heard it is difficult to find a job as a bio engineer since they prefer chemical and mechanical engineers? Do you have any advice??? Thank you!!!

The class load will be difficult, and none of the bioengineers in my lab can find jobs. They are perpetual post-docs, unless your at a high tier institution it will be very difficult. That being said if your passionate about it, and love it = pursue it.

I really enjoy my research and it has some very interesting translational applications

MS in physiology, but I work in a biomedical engineering lab with BME/BE grad students- It's an exciting, growing field. Currently, you'll need a higher degree for most BME jobs, though, and most positions are located in just a few states. My recommendation: do something else during undergrad. If you want to continue on in bioengineering afterward, do it in grad school.

Graduated with a bioengineering degree in 2012 from big state U. 1/3 of our class went to med school, 1/3 found tangentially related (non-bio) engineering jobs and 1/3 did some other type of graduate school. Bioengineering is an interesting field but it still very young at the undergrad level. If you think you might want to work as an engineer stick to chemical or mechanical for undergrad and then hone in on bioengineering in some type of graduate program.

just cause ur a bme or BE doesn't mean the only job would be a bioengineering position. u can always go to R&D, quality, and depending on your focus almost all engineering positions are available.
