Hi everyone!

I’m looking at Tuft’s admissions requirements right now and it requires an upper level biology class. Since schools have different classes listed under different subjects, do does anyone know how strict this is? I’ve only take introductory BIOL title classes but have/will have taken many upper level classes in microbiology and genetics by graduation. I’m thinking of applying to tufts but I think it will also depend on if it’s worth it for me to squeeze in a 300 level biology course just to apply.

thanks!

It varies school to school but I would say that genetics courses fall under biology and therefore your higher level genetics courses would count. As always, I recommend contacting Tufts directly and they’ll be able to give you an accurate answer so you can rest easy knowing for sure whether or not you can apply there.

Microbio and genetics are upper level biology classes, so I'm a bit confused by what you're asking.

At my college we had two different microbio classes, one was 2000 level the other was 4000 level. Only the 4000 counts as upper level

This is for the Texas schools, but it gives you some information on what types of classes count towards the bio hours. Hope this helps

I wasn’t sure if they would count for Tufts because while they’re biology, microbiology and genetics have their own departments at my school. So general biology classes have a course code with BIOL but micro and genetics are listed as MICROM and GENOME. Thanks for your advice!

Nope you’re good! Those are considered upper level biology courses even though they don’t have the BIO code.
