Hi all,

I AP'ed out of Intro to Biology, and took Cell Biology and it's associated lab (both great courses).

My college is notorious for having an awful molecular biology, developmental biology, genetics lecture/lab.

The cell biology course was very intensive -- we went through the Molecular Cell Biology textbook by Lodish, et al. It was pretty difficult, since I hadn't taken a biology course since sophomore year in high school, but I learned a lot. When I look at the reviews for genetics/molecular biology, all the reviews say "awful, do not take, poor teaching, learned nothing, arbitrary grading, etc."

Really, every single biology class besides cell biology is awfully taught. I am trying to minimize the pain though. If I took one of those 3 awful courses to satisfy 2 semesters of biology, do i have to the the associated lab? For example, if I took Molecular Biology or Reproductive Biology, could I take some biology lab on nucleic acids, microscopy, etc or would i have to take a lab in that specific type of biology?

Thanks!

Generally, you would, since Medical schools want to see a year of lab.

BUT, I highly recommend talking to your school's pre-med advising or academic advising, if your school doesn't have one. Ask them if your semester of Cell Biology lab is equivalent to a year's lab. If it isn't, you're probably going to have to take the lab too.
