Anki is a pretty popular app. And I know you can make flashcards on quizlet too.
Anki. Easy to use, you can use it on your laptop and sync to your phone, you can input photos, stores a lot of data, and it's free. A lot of people in my class use it to study.

I personally use Quizlet. Its user interface is as smooth as it gets, and it's compatible on mobile devices. 2 complaints though:
1. $15 annual fee if you want bonus features (image upload, longitudinal learning, etc.)
2. You can't put pictures on both sides of a card.
