if one was to take upper division biology courses like molecular biology, biochem, etc., is it acceptable to take them on a pass/not pass basis rather than for a letter grade so as not to affect one's GPA? or do dental schools require that these classes, if taken, be for a letter grade only.

I don't think dental schools mind.....if your already in......If your not in I would have an explanation ready as to why you are takin a course pass fail....

If it's not a pre-req, then you can take it as whatever you like. In the case of Physics, which is a pre-req, you can sometimes talk them into letting you take that as pass-fail as well.

All of the other courses typically need letter grades.

I dont understand this "pass/fail" option you guys are talking about. I thought any class you take as an undergrad would be looked at as a letter grade, and if you passed with a D it would look very very bad. Fill me in?

I took a biochem and a calculus class p/np and it was ok.
