most schools want 1 year of biology.

I have general biology I

i also have medical physiology w/ lab(4 hours)
and medical anatomy w/ lab (4 hours)

i'm good right? i have a year worth of study in biology, or do they want bio 2 or microbiology? (essentially, microbiology is physiology)

i'm good right?
Generally no. You need to take the coursework that has the content that's tested on the MCAT. You're missing at least genetics & cell bio. See your school's premed web page to find out what courses are for premeds: that's what you need to take.
(essentially, microbiology is physiology)
Huh? Um, no.

sorry on the comparison, i didnt mean literally.

microbiology - study of micro-organisms, bacteria, viruses

physiology - study of the human body's organs and functions

it just seems that physiology would have more to do with med school than microbiology, so i dont understand why physio could not fulfill the bio requirement, but microbiology can.

there isnt a single school that i am looking at that says i need genetics, etc.

most just say 1 full year of bio (some encourage microbiology as part of that year)

That is the first time I ever heard that.

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms...of various kinds, which includes the study of pathogenic (those that are disease-causing) organisms...and other things. Anatomy is the study of structure; physiology is the study of function.

General bio requirements are general bio I and gen bio II w labs. The med schools you are applying to will tell you what they want, but also look at the courses for sciences given by the formal post-bac programs.

The prereqs are not defined by their relevance to med school.

Nobody is saying that a course in microbiology, or in physiology, covers the bio prereqs.

Regardless, microbiology is a med school course (infectious disease...). So is physiology.

I was listing the topics that are covered in the 2nd half of the usual prereq bio course. I was not listing courses to take.

Which is why microbio is a subject covered in the prereq bio sequence.

Again, I suggest looking at your school's premed advising web page for prereq coursework listings. Also useful would be to review the subjects that are on the MCAT, which can be found on www.aamc.org.

We here in notrad are not nimrods trying to pass rumor off as fact, btw, but you can find lots of that in pre-allo.

Best of luck to you.

yeah, i appreciate the insight.

again, i chose my words poorly, i wasnt trying to imply the 2 courses are the same, but that i can use physiology to fulfill the same role that microbiology would in the 1 year requirement. I just want to throw that out there before someone else comes in here and explains to me why they are different.

Never had Bio II and never had a problem with anyone saying I didn't meet the bio reqs. I'm guessing this is school specific.

In biology, I have 1 semester biology and then zoology, cell bio, genetics, evolution, virology, immunology. I haven't had anyone question my pre-reqs. Though I did not apply to those schools, I have emails from Yale and Duke saying that they were sufficient. At the schools to which I did apply, my pre-reqs were never in question. Mayo sent an email verifying that I had or would take biochemistry.

Send emails to the schools that you might want to apply at and ask. Remember to take their advice - because your name will go into their files.

I also never took Bio II, and I've not had any issues. Personally, I think Bio II is a waste of time, and the time would be better spent taking Molec Bio or Genetics. Just make sure you know what's acceptable for the schools you're thinking of applying to.
