Hello all,
When it comes to taking Bio pre-reqs, can it be any two biology courses in sequence, such as A&P I-II instead of General BiologyI-II?

I am aware this has been beaten to death around this forum, however, I was wondering will I be questioned if I just take one of the pre-req sequences at a CC?

I am limited by the types of classes that are offered within commuting distance from me, hence, the question.

My background in brief
B.S in Electrical Engineering with minor in Mathematics (graduated Cum Laude w/ 3.69 gpa)
M.S. in EE (3.7 GPA)
In terms of pre-reqs, I need to complete a biology and ochem course sequence.

Thank you very much for your input. Much appreciated. Have a great weekend!🙂

No, A&P is generally a health professions prereq (such as nursing or PT) but it doesn't cover the content on the MCAT. You'd be missing all of genetics, molecular bio, evolution and other stuff.

You should be able to see what bio sequence is for premeds by finding the premed advising website for the schools you're looking at.

The MCAT bio section outline is here: https://www.aamc.org/students/download/85566/data/bstopics.pdf

Best of luck to you.

Thank your for the info. Guess it's back to class hunting for me. 🙂

Assuming one had taken AP Biology, CLEP, or had working knowledge of the topics covered in a general biology course sequence (from other classes, work, self study, whatever), would one be able to use A&P for the medical school prerequisites ("1 year of biology", not for MCAT prep, but for the medical school itself)

I agree, however, some schools will state if they have a certain requirement for their pre reqs. University of Louisvill states: '

BIOLOGY: This requirement may be fulfilled by one semester of cellular biology with lab and one semester of organismic biology with lab. Survey courses in anatomy and physiology cannot be substituted for this requirement. http://louisville.edu/medschool/admissions/application-process/pre-med-requirements.html

So just be wary of that and good luck.

It'll be school specific. Some schools even require anatomy and physio now... in addition to the 1 year of biology. The safest thing to do would be to call each school you're interested in for clarification.

What about microbio, advanced A&P, genetics, or something else?

My situation: I took Bio I in a brick-and-mortar classroom in my undergrad days. I'm postbacc now, and I've been taking online courses because of being overseas with the military. I have taken Bio II through Colorado Community Colleges online, but it seems that most med schools will not accept the online courses. Despite it being online, it was a rigorous course, and I feel I have a pretty good background in it for the MCAT. Rather than repeating Bio II again in a traditional classroom, I was thinking of taking Micro or another bio class to get the "year" of bio for admission.

Would that work?
