So I am in the process of taking my biology pre-req...I am finishing up the first quarter of 'principles of bio' which is your basic general pre-med science class. For my next semester I would much rather take Cell bio or microbio, instead of principles because

a) the teacher for second quarter of principles is supposed to be horrible
b) it is all botany second quarter and I would much rather take microbio and lab which will be more relevant

Would this be ok? I am thinking it would be because I would be taking a higher level bio class but I just want to make sure?

I was at a school that had general bio I & II but transferred shortly after I. My new school only offers introductory bio, so I took molecular bio instead and am not too concerned about applying without bio II. But hey, that's me. I could be wrong.

It doesn't matter if your second biology is a general Biology II course. I didn't have that, just Human Anatomy, Human Physiology and Genetics. I also had taken a Cell Structure and Function course pass/fail a looong time ago as well as General Bio I but I don't think they count pass/fail courses so that didn't matter.

fabulous thanks a ton

I took a **** ton of biology classes, including molecular bio, endocrinology, cell bio, genetics, micro, immunology, cell physiology, vert phys, etc., and with the possible exception of cell phys, I thought that the intro bio with plants was the hardest bio class I took.

Yes I've heard this as well, which is another part of the reason I would rather take something eles, I'm taking 20 hours worth of science/lab classes and I'm a bit concerned it might push me over the edge. Although I've never taken micro, I'm alot more comfortable with it and would love to be able to take that in order to save my grade a bit-- not to mention it is more interesting to me- I just don't want to look suspecious

Just to bring this thread to a happy conclusion and thanks for all the help I decided to take cell bio

Cheers
Laura
