Hi,
I am an aspiring pre-medical student and I was thinking of declaring a biopsychology major at my school because it seems really interesting to me.
So, just as a question, did any of you hear about this major before? 🙂

Gf is this major, though the school just renamed it to something else. She's enjoying it but not premed. If my school had this I would have went with this major. Just find out about the psych classes ahead of time because they could easily turn out far tougher than expected, where as everyone pretty much knows which of the science classes are tough.

I think it's basically the same as Neuroscience (which is SO awesome, btw). Maybe a little bit more on the psych side, though? I'm assuming you're still in high school, so look at your prospective college's website and see what the course requirements are for the major to get an idea of what it should entail. Wikipedia says it's synonymous to "behavioral neuroscience"...

I checked out the curriculum and it's more heavy on the biology side.. I have to take five psychology classes for the major- like, drugs, the brain and behavior. I mean, it seems a lot more interesting than just a biology major. I know it's gonna be tough, but I think I'll enjoy it.

My school doesn't offer neuroscience.. isn't that psych and chemistry? what is it exactly?

It's an interdisciplinary major including biology, psychology, and chemistry to study the structure and function of the nervous system all the way from a molecular level to a behavioral level. For my school, we have to take a year of intro bio/lab and gen chem/lab then ochem/lab, intro neuro/lab, neuro bio, a year of psych stats, and then a few upper level bios and psych classes of your choosing (such as vertebrate physiology, cell bio, cognitive science, animal behavior, sensation and perception, etc). It's very, very interesting. Your brain is an amazing thing.

This is my major! Absolutely love it--a nice mix of general psych classes and biology.

My school calls it Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science (BBCS). We also have psych and neuroscience...so BBCS is like a nice balance between the two. 🙂

This was my major sophomore year of college. I changed it back to theatre (which was my major freshman year) during a bout of horrible idiocy. I wish I had kept it. It was basically all the bio requirements but the botany and ecology stuff, and the psych requirements without the social psych classes. Very cool.

At my school they call it Neuroscience. This is my major too. For the upper level electives you can choose to stick to either the bio block or psych or mix it up I suppose.
