What would you put as the answer?
research into a new drug reveals that on of its side effects is to destroy the ectodermal germ layer of the devleoping embryos. If this drug were administered to a pregnant woman, which would be absent in the fetus?
a. adrenal medulla
b.femur
c. stomach
d. heart
e. iliac vien

and why???

A. adrenal medulla

ectoderm --> neural crest --> nerves, skin, bone of brain, adrenal medulla and components of the PNS

does that mean the skeletal in in the ectoderm, thus any of the bones will comes in ectoderm?

i am not 100% sure on this so dont quote me on it, but from what i remember, the skull and backbone are formed from ectoderm for sure...0_0...might want to look it up

the answer is A

process of elimination, cant be d and e cuz thats the circulatory (meso), c is digestive tract, b is conncetive tissue (meso)

I thought ligaments and tendons are connective tissues. though there could be more.

I thought the ectoderm was the integument, lens, and the nervous system. Neither one of these choices are right

B would be a connective tissue?? Femur is a bone.

Yes , it's a calcified/hardened connective tissue like cartilage ...............and now a great surprise for you ...... blood is a connective tissue too. No offense.
GL with DAT.:luck:

conncetive tissues are: bone, blood, cartilage, fat, tendons and ligaments....

am i missing any? well u get the point

A.
Adrenal medulla is derived from embryonic neural crest and nural crest is a transient component of ectoderm. Basically AM is nothing but a ganlion of the sympathic nervous system.

x2

this is why adrenaline and nor-adrenaline are so similar.

Check out my notes on development, it goes over this.

Yes the chromaffin cells of the AM are ectoderm derived, but also know that the PNS is derived from 3 sources: neural crest cells, neural tube, and Mesoderm which give rise to the dura and to some connective tissue of peripheral fibers. This could pose as a trick question on PNS?

FYI...another trick question could come from the Notochord during development which is a cylinder of mesoderm which induces the formation of each vertebral body and forms the nuclues pulposus of each disk!! I quess these NS components would be Meso derived.

What a meanass question! Where did you get this from?

I would've became confused with mesoderm's adrenal cortex but out of process elim, its A
