Hey guys,

With B.S. in biochemistry and cell biology, how likely would be for a graduate with two years of lab experience to get a job in a biotech company around San Diego.

Thanks

Just go apply. Job market is rough right now, but apply to as many jobs as possible. Try applying to 30-40 jobs and you might get one.

Yeah, I will. I won't be graduating until next June. When should I start applying. Before or after graduating?

Unless you want to realistically face 6 months of unemployment while you look start applying before you graduate.

As someone who is currently working in the biotech industry, I can tell you that it's a grim job market. Also, the Bay Area is a greater biotech hub than San Diego. Your best bet if you're intent on staying around San Diego is to apply for as many jobs as possible and hope that one works out. Keep in mind that even entry-level positions that typically would go to a recent college graduate are being picked up by people with Master's degrees. Overall, this is not going to be an easy task, but you won't have a chance unless you apply. Good luck.

I was unemployed for 2 months while I looked for a job in the LA area. Try to participate in some activity while you are job hunting. For example, I did literature research for a plastic surgery research project at Johns Hopkins while I applied to jobs.

I recommend that you start applying literally right now. Make it clear that you could start in May/June when you graduate. Literally get your CV and cover letter ready immediately and apply ASAP.
