so I just got hit in the face by my crazy dog about an hour ago and it's pretty likely i'm going to have a black eye when I wake up in the morning since it's already starting to swell, despite the ice. I'm supposed to be interviewing at my dream reach school on Wednesday morning. Should I call to reschedule or go to the interview anyway? It's so late in the season I don't really think rescheduling is a good idea but I'm not sure what else to do... can't say a black eye looks too professional, so I'm kinda stuck.

Just go. I would make a light-hearted joke to explain it at the beginning of the interview.

I was supposed to have a boxing match 6 days before my next interview, but I decided to move it so I don't have to worry about something like this (a bit more suspicious on a female).

I think it'll be fine. I agree that it'll give you something to talk about with your interviewers. Some people like animals, but EVERYBODY likes psychotic animal stories.

Yeah just explain when you first sit down with the interviewer - it will break the ice.

Don't reschedule its really late in the season and a black eye isn't worth rescheduling...

use it to your advantage.. im sure schools see enough tightwad premeds, if you can make it a funny thing instead of a negative it may even help you.

say something like 'oh my dog wanted to wish my good luck but got a little too excited'

Seriously. And anyone that's ever had or seen a medium to large sized dog knows how excited they can get and what sort of mishaps ensue. Dogs make [most] people smile. So be contented that you have a great personal story to lighten the interview!

How does a dog give a black eye? I can understand scratches and such. Did the dog knock you into something else?

Just curious.

No, I don't think it will be an issue. Just be open about it and maybe crack some jokes like, "you should see the other guy".

this brings up a good point. we should all punch ourselves in the eye going into interviews (then make up a cute story to go along with it) to have a good icebreaker!

It's almost a good thing - who forgets the guy with a black eye?

if you're really self-conscious, make-up works wonders!

Obviously you've never been around crazy hyper dogs that when you're bending down to pet them will get so excited and jump straight into your face at close range. I swear that if our dogs weren't little things I'd have gotten bruises from them already.

As said as it sounds, this may be a great way for you to stand out.

Just play it cool. It's not like you ogt it from purse-snatching an old lady. You will be fine.

slap a steak on that guy and hope for the best.

and if any one of your interviewers ask about it, ask them if that want a piece of what THE OTHER guy got...👍

go to GNC or a store like that and get some Arnica. you put it under your tongue every few hours or something (in pill form) or apply it in a cream. it really works (at preventing excessive bruising anyway).

Chill your eye and head on into the interview. If asked, explain the situation but otherwise, forget that you have this problem. Bruising around the eye can happen for a variety of reasons and professionalism has little to do with this. Accidents happen. Suppose you were an Olympic wrestler that just won the gold medal for your country. Suppose you were involved in an motor vehicle collision. Unless you state that you were involved in a drunken, rowdy pubfight which shows poor judgement, this will be a non-issue.

Go to your interview and don't mention the eye unless you are asked by an interviewer. You can always say that you walked into a door.

Congratulations! You just found something that's going to make you stand out in your interviewers eyes. Others should be so lucky.

You got hit in the eye by a dog? Not bit, or scratched? How does that happen?

Get a cut-man. Or watch Rocky a couple times and do it yourself.

P.S. Thanks to Mr. T, Mick is no longer available

I think the worst part is he's a puppy, and only about 15-20 lbs right now. For some reason he was all riled up and running circles around the apartment... I bent down to pick up some of the stuffing he had pulled out of his pillow (since he's chewing like crazy) and at the same time he decided to jump full speed right into my face... gotta love pets.

👍

Get your girlfriend to take you to the mall for a makeover.

my friend's puppy bit me in my crotch once when he got too excited......
I could show NO ONE about that puppy story

consider yourself lucky

i know someone who wore one of those air casts without even having an injury for this specific purpose. despicable

1. Great screen name, it made me assume you got a black eye a different way.

2. I bet you won't have a black eye at all, unless you bruise very easliy. That's a small dog, and it takes quite a bit.

3. Don't worry about it.

Exactly! I WISH that something like that would happen to me before an interview so I'd have a great story to tell. Always, always own up to these things and "roll with the punches" (both literally and figuratively in this case 😛). It'll make a great story! Always be confident no matter what.

I went to a couple of interviews with a horrid sty on my eye...I had been interviewing in NYC and I guess the pollution in the city, combined with my stress, brought out the sty. Anyway I wore my glasses to help cover it up. People kinda looked at me funny when they first met me, like my student hosts and interviewers (it looked like an eye deformity and not just a sty...) and in the end I think it allowed my interviewers to sympathize with me.

I thought about explaining what was wrong with my eye in the beginning of my interviews, but then I thought I'd just bring it up if they asked about it. They didn't ask, and really I think they kinda sympathized and that kinda allowed them to have a little more heart when they talked to me.

Hope it works for you similarly! Or better yet, I hope it doesn't turn into a black eye. 🙂 Good luck!

can someone punch me in the face? i've got an interview coming up, and i really want to stand out!

Sure, just tell me where and when. 😀

OK, so did the bruise show up or not!?

unfortunately, yes. but it's not as bad as some I've seen- it's mostly underneath the eye. If I can get the rest of the swelling out in the next 24 hrs I think it may be disguisable with sunless tanner and some good concealer- if not though I'll just have to rock it how it is...

Errrrr....I'd have nightmares of ending up with a ridiculously over-tanned-looking face. I wouldn't mess with that stuff right before an interview, but I guess if you use it a lot and are familiar with how much to use.....

Just wear an eye-patch and tell them you're an amateur pirate. You'll be a hit at the adcom meeting.

The way I see it ... you have two solutions to this problem that are golden, and almost guarantee admission to this dream school. Option 1: You walk in and before anyone says a word (because everyone is going to instantly look at your eye) you say; 'You should see the other guy,' then just go on with the interview. Option 2: One of the adcoms will say 'Oh my goodness, what happened to your eye?' And you fire back (with a stern face) 'The first rule of Fight Club is that we do not talk about Fight Club,' and then go on with the interview. Either way ... you're good. 👍

You could tell a humorous story about beating your boyfriends mistress on the jerry springer show.

😱

just kidding.

:laugh::laugh: this has got to be the best pre-interview story yet. good luck!!
