I've been on a few medical school interviews and noticed that the women of color quite ACTIVELY check out black male interviewees without shame(not a problem as far as I'm concerned 😀 ). I was told it's because once black males enter medschool it's all out competition because the ratio is so low compared to females. Can anyone here tell me if this is true or not for your school?

In my school I've been told by blk female 2nd year students that they were counting on MY class to bring in some cute blk guys...which is sad cause my class has no cuties. But not to worry, I've developed what my classmates call an "indian fetish" since we have quite a handful of indians in my class and there are cuties in that group.

It doesn't make a difference to me in a sense because I'm against intra-class dating (especially in the first and second years).
However, I do look at 3rd and 4th years who happen to show better prospects.

P.S: There is a dental program also in my school and there are two blk guys in it. One is especially cute but he knows it and that's not cute.

In my class of around 175ish, we have 2 black men. Actually, a third one may have joined/transferred in, but I've only ever seen him twice, so I'm not sure. Women... let's see... maybe 15ish? The class ahead of us had more men (maybe as many as 8?) and the '08 class has a few more as well.

any guesses as to why there are more black females than black males in med school? i've only seen one black male interviewee on the interview trail (3 schools so far).

there simply are not enough aftican american men (or african americans in general) entering medical school. for a number of years now, the number of african american women entering medical school has outnumbered the men.

One big reason is that, statistically, young black males are most likely to be incarcerated than doing anything else.

Oh Lord. 🙄

Yup...med school or prison. Nothing else.

what's wrong with white guys!

🙁

I have been told that I should find someone "on my level" and because the only guys that I have dated in medical school were NOT medical students, I assume that that means that I should find another black male medical student date. This is impossible at my school. First off, I would not like to date anyone at my school to begin with, but, even if I changed my mind, the black guys would not like me anyways because they are trying to date some non-black girl or become the next black professional playboy! Therefore, I have had to become a equal opportunity dater--dating guys of other ethnicities and other professions.

You go Girl. Equal Opportunity Dating!!!

The ratio of professional black women to men is like 5 to 1, and even that 1 is hard to find because you have to share him with other non black women or he has serious ego issues, which is a definite deal breaker 👎 .

Come on, now... 🙄

But, yea, I'm one of those who's ACTIVELY checking out the brothers all the time 😉 While I do wish there were more in med school, there's always dental, optometry, grads, and undergrads who can supplement the shortage . If not there, then those who are already working- teachers, sports coaches etc etc. There are several smart, good-looking black men outside of medicine who may not be "professionals" but still got their **** together and aint never been in jail either.

Truth be told, I actively check out the non-black guys as well - white, indian, asian ,hispanic, middle eastern etc etc. Aint nothing about having a "fetish" either- if dude is hot, then he's hot.

Wait, so women develop an "Indian fetish" in med school? SCORE! Maybe this means I'll have more luck in med school than I did at my Asian-dominated undergrad! 👍 😍 :luck:

There's this huge thread about guys' fetish with Indian women ( http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=36705 )But I didn't know it worked the other way around too.

I've got this overwhelming proclivity towards Asian women, which sux because I have never seen an Indian guy with an Asian girl, and that feeds my insecurity.

Anyhow, what's with all these threads about hot guys/girls/sex on SDN lately?

In my school - 1 black male, 0 black women.

have you ever seen a black male teller working in any banks in the US?

It is the system. black people tend not to get good education since early on. black males get discriminated more often than black females. teachers also don't give as much attention to boys.

In response to your first question: yes, I have seen a black male teller.

Now, to your second question, it seems to work just the opposite (at least at my school) when black people get into medical school. For example, out of the 5 black females in my incoming class, I will be the only to graduate this year. In contrast, the 2 black males that we started out with will both be graduating this year.

Bank teller = good education 😕

There is a cutie blk med student at my school. Now I know this boy knows that he is sorta cute. So I go and try to holla but he is trying to play hard to get...or maybe he's just not interested... 😱 😕
We spoke once, I then emailed him to say "whassup"...he replies with his phone number... I called and the convo was regular...nothing special. I mean what's the deal with that? You want me or what? I can't be bothered with these fool's yo....I think I will stick to my indian men.

Not sure what this has to do with this thread but if anyone has a clue as to what's going on...please help me out!

My class has 1 black male and 6 black females...my entire school has like 25 black ppl max. The class sizes are like 105...my class is huge tho with 120 ppl total.

here is a mantra that works well for me.

if he doesn't call/email/go out of his way to talk to YOU,

*he's not interested*.

just my opinion, and something i definitely have come to believe the hard way.

it's so simple, yet something that we women have such a hard time accepting.

and also - be careful with indian guys!

sure, they might have fun w/you but most of their families (i'm about to stereotype now, but it's true) would DIE before they let them marry a dark-skinned woman and especially an African dark-skinned woman.

so if you are just looking to have some fun yourself. . .carry on with the Indians! (they can be cute 🙂 ) but if you are looking like me for serious prospects- i would avoid going down that route.

HAHA my thoughts exactly!

We are 3 blacks in my class, 2 boys and a girl. The other guy left recently, because he had to go back to Africa ( family tragedy 🙁 ), and the girl isn't my type so I won't even bother.

That's good to hear. 😛

I don't know if I've ever seen Indians and African-Americans dating, but I am attracted to Indian men, so I'll keep hope alive!

(I don't know what is is about cute male Indian med students!)

The Indian/African American dating scene is not very big here in the Midwest b/c alot if Indians like to stick together....but believe me I here to break all the molds/stereotypes set forth.....as far as two med students I have dated in my past, both being african american, it was not good!...but I will not give up hope that there are good med student men(AA,indian, etc....) out there!

Yes, I have. He asked me for my number, but that's another story 😀

This may be true for some Indians (mostly those raised in India/lived in India most of their childhood), but for those who are raised in the US/American born, their families are more lenient in that respect. If you like an Indian guy, go for it. But, it might be good to bring up (in a very subtle manner) the question of what his family might think of you. If he responds that he can not date you bec. you are not Indian, then, at least you will know. But, it definitely does not hurt to try!!! Do not let stereotypes get in your way!

😕 Anyway, the other guy came back 2 days ago 😳 Good news is, he won't have to retake the whole year. He'll just do summer school to catch up with the BioMed 1 unit.

I have a black female friend that is married to an Indian man, and I have gone out a few times with his friend (I'm biracial) who just came to the states a little over a year ago. Besides a few cultural diff's, Indian men are a cool bunch, very gentleman-like, and extremely intelligent. As for my friend, she was warmly received by his family who live back in India. Guess this is an exception?
