in order to break the monotony of similar threads, i wanted to post the pics i took of the Blacksburg area after my interview at VCOM. i didn't take many pics of the VCOM building itself, because, like both LECOM buildings, it was just your standard generic DO building (very nice on the inside), but 3-4 stories high on a piece of land. Pretty much what you see on the website is what you get. i took pictures of the surrounding area to get a feel for what it would be like to live in the area.
1. Christiansburg- this is the 1st town off the exit from the airport. even though it is technically a seperate town, it's only 5 mins away down mainstreet and the area where most VaTech people do their non-grocery shopping. as you can tell by these pics, it's your standard suburban-type new strip mall developments. a Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's (i think, i forgot), chain restaurants, etc. There's even a small mall with a theater playing movies.
Red Robin fast food
Chain Restaurant
Dick's, connected to the mall
2. Blacksburg- a small collegetown. Here are some pics of main street. don't let the multitude of pictures fool you. this was literally 2 blocks of bars/restaurants in the "downtown" area, just taken from different angles. these 2 blocks are right next to the entrance of the VT campus. VCOM is located on the far end, closer to Christiansburg.
down mainstreet as you get close to VT entrance
further down mainstreet, closer to VT entrance
looking back down mainstreet along the street i just came down, from VT entrance
intersection of mainstreet and a major sidestreet, VT campus behind me
down that sidestreet, VT campus behind me
further down that side street
even further down that same side street, another angle
