Just wondering what ppl thought of the Blackwell's UCV Step 1 10 volume series. Was it helpful? Is there something comparable that you found more useful?

I didn't find them particularly helpful. They are okay to stimulate a discussion with people about the topic, but otherwise not that great. I found Step-Up to the Bedside to be much better. The discussion about each disease that you are diagnosing included a basic science review of the topic at hand. So it brings in the biochem, the genetics, the physiology, the path... But of course, it depends on what you are looking to get out of it - for just a clinical picture of how a disease presents, the Blackwell series is fine (IMO).

I thought they were great. They gave you a nice clinical presentation for the various diseases, which is tremendously helpful, especially for the more esoteric enzyme deficiencies.

I liked using them. I read them entirely throughout the year along with my courses, and then I went back on one day towards the end of my studying to just look at the BOLD words associated with each disease. That way I felt that I had a grip on the key words for most of the 900 or so cases that are presented.
