would like to know what you all think because there was this discussion in class, and i asked my professor why do we do bleaching if we don't have enough data base on its pros and cons and the long term effect on teeth..
her attitude is; bleaching is innocent until proven otherwise, and mine is; since bleaching can't be proven harmless, we should limit it to necessities until it's proven otherwise..
needless to say she was like ,'how dare you argue with me, i am professor almighty! " and made me sit down .. after class come classmates came to me and said "we think you're right" but i really couldn't see them supporting me during class..
your thoughts? i just think that things like 'extreme make over" ,and hollywood's 'whiter than white' teeth population are plain crazy

I agree 100% with you. Bleaching should not be taken lighlty. I believe the ADA has only approved 10% bleaching solutions. Its too early to know if stronger is a risk to patient health.

There's 20+ years of solid research on the subject and not a single report of carbamide peroxide induced osteonecrosis to date. I think it's safe to assume we are in reasonably safe territory here.

What % bleach solution did they test? Did they look at zoom whitening? That method of bleaching generates far more heat than regular 10%.

bit is osteonecrosis the only risk? who said it doesn't induce hypomineralization or weakening of the peridontium or even affect the pulp???
so far everything i read about it had the sentence "no adequate data on its disadvantages", so we really shouldn't go assuming it's 100% safe..
i'd rather we say ,' so far it's 100% safe' or better still, 'we don't know yet." 😎
