I thought I ask some feedback here first before I did some further investigation

My Girlfriend and I were having intercourse and she started bleeding- this happened several times. She switched to a new birth control recently- I believe she said it was oragon? Anyhow, we've had intercourse before with no bleeding, so is it possible it's being caused by the BC, or should I take her to a GYN to check for tearing?

I don't know how to say this exactly, but we also thing it might be due to me being to big, and tearing her that way. Should she see a doctor ASAP, or maybe try switching BC first? I'm looking for recommendations from Gynos, not high fives, or crue remarks

thx🙂

NO gynos have any advice?

if someone asks a question "should she see a doctor first" the answer should always be yes, especially on this forum. another way to look at it is that if she wanted to switch pills, she needs a prescription anyhow, so either way she has to see her doctor.

otherwise, OC's can cause breakthrough bleeding, especially early in the course. if you guys were having intercourse before she switched, and there was no bleeding, and post-switch the bleeding started, that would lead me toward the pill change as a cause.

also, keep in mind that other causes of bleeding should be considered and ruled out, that it may not be one of these two factors.

hope this helps. see a doctor!

no offense, but what a stupid question! has your girlfriend ever thought of calling her gynecologist?

Thank you, this would have been my first thought as well!!!!

In my experience, often BV from Gardnerella Vaginalis and Trichomonas can cause the cervix to get a friable layer that can bleed after intercourse. Its pap time basically. don't think Cervical CA just yet, there are many other explanations for a younger couple (tears etc).

Given that this reply is the better part of a year after the initial post, this may all be moot, but...

Just saw a patient in my ob clerkship on friday that had bleeding after intercourse. Turned out that her cervix was approximately 4 centimeters away from the opening to her vagina. Now unless God was horrendously cruel when he made her bf, her cervix was taking a beating every time they had intercouse. The attending recommended K-Y and different sexual positions (woman on top). Pt also had a cervical ectropion, so that was probably a contributing factor.
