I made this new account to preserve anonymity (I am a frequent poster)

I am a very average student (literally... my class rank is the median). Binging and purging left me with a weak foundation in basic sciences.

With Step I this year, I want to re-learn them so we it comes time for dedicated study time it will be a review, instead of 4-6 week scramble/panic mode.

Any tips, namely on:
-Biochem
-Anatomy/Embryo
-Genetics
-Micro

Anki flashcards (Dr.Willbe blog)? Q-Banks? Review Books?

Any way I could juggle this with the 2nd year course load?

You guys are great, thanks.

better to focus on 2nd year stuff and fill in the gaps in whatever topic you're lacking in, rather than commit to juggling your own autotutorial curriculum on the side

After talking to a lot of m3/m4s about retaining info, the general consensus is that most of the "important" info from first year is touched on enough to jog your memory during second year and direct board studying, especially for physiology.

Do some internet/forum searching to see what subjects are high v low yield on the step, and go from there. For ex: Anatomy is a low-yield subject for boards, and many people agree that First Aid is enough for studying anatomy. I just started M2 year, so I can't say from experience. But, I do think the BRS books for Anatomy and Phys are excellent, succinct resources that review much of the 1st year's material, and incorporate it well with second year curriculum. If you are at the median then I'm sure you'll be surprised at how easily it comes back to you.

My suggestion would be study your butt off for this year's classes, set aside some time to review First Aid, and potentially get some of the BRS books, and Lippincott's for Biochem (although this is an arguably crammable subject for boards... how many MDs could still draw the krebs cycle, let's be real).

Hey thanks for the replies guys,

At this point I think I am just going to take the advice that was posted and fill in the gaps as we go along.

You guys are great
