hey guys,
see, i cant blink my left eye! i can partly blink my right eye but then my face looks all messed up. any idea what this means. what can i do to blink normally. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well you should probably go to a doctor. Something like that happened to a friend of mine and its called Bell's palsy. That basically means that you have facial paralysis and you don't know why. I think it can be caused by a virus or a bunch of other things. Anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Look i n the mirror and smile. Does only one side of your mouth move? Sounds like Bells palsy to me. I should know. I have had 3 times! Yeah it basically sucks and it should go away. Its ben a while but I know you have to wear an eye pacth to keep crud outta your eye (enjoy looking like a pirate for a few weeks). Plus youll have to put an eye ointment to keep you r eye moisturized. Main thing... go see your doc!

thanks for your input guys, but i dont think its bells palsy. i can close both my eyes at the same time and can frown as well. see, i just have a problem with blinking with one eye. mainly on the left side. for some reason i have never been able to do it. what do u think it means. can it be fixed. are there any other people out there who cant blink.

No offense, but go see a doctor. SDN is not a medical clinic to get diagnosed at and nobody can give you a true Dx over the internet.

My friend can't wink at all. She has never been able to. It's funny watching her adjust to some things in physical diagnosis. So far, she hasn't found a solution. Sorry.

if you couldn't blink in one eye - at all - then you'd have had major problems w/keeping it clean and moisturized long before.

if you can't wink, then that just means you haven't spent enough time practicing in front of mirror.

Does your eyelid droop? If so then it could be Bell's Palsy. If you cant retract your eye lid its called ptosis, it can be caused by damage to CN3 or to damage in your sympathetic system. Interesting stuff, I would get to a doctor.

sorry about the confusion.... i can blink but not wink.
any ideas on how to overcome it so that i can look through an opthalmascope

I used to not be able to wink when I was a kid. I really wanted to be able to so I learned by holding one eye closed and opening and closing the other. I guess some people just have to teach those muscles to work that way. It wasn't too hard to learn how to do.
