ok, so everyone and their momma says bowens disease presents with a reddish lesion on the penis or scrotum but qbank says bowen's disease says its greyish white.... i've gotten 2 diff question on qbank saying its freakin greyish white! does anyone know what it really is?

there's bowen's disease and bowenoid papulosis. there are two different types.

bowen's disease is carcinoma in situ (squamous cell), and bowenoid papulosis is red or flesh colored papules related to HPV.

yea but brs says bowens disease also presents as a single erythematous plaqe and both of them are considered to be carcinoma in situ

Background: Originally described in 1977 by Kopf and Bart as papules on the penis, bowenoid papulosis (BP) now is known to occur on the genitalia of both sexes in sexually active people. BP is manifested as papules that are induced virally by human papillomavirus (HPV) and demonstrate a distinctive histopathology (bowenoid dysplasia). Many of the lesions appear to run a benign course, although a number of case reports associate BP with malignant invasive transformation (2.6%).

BP may be considered to be a transitional state between a genital wart and Bowen disease. The rate of transformation is unknown. Clearly, lesions have some malignant potential, but they may be treated with locally destructive modalities, sparing the surrounding tissues. The lesions often are multifocal, and patients should be observed for recurrence and for the possibility of invasive or in situ malignancy

I remember reading that Bowen's disease is a white plaque, but there is another variant called Erythroplasia of Queyrat (something like that), which is erythematous. I think they're the same thing...seems like I remember seeing that the Queyrat was more likely to invade.

G.I. Joe, I just had the same probem last night. I was so pissed at that question! BRS and Ruben/Farber pathology both say a red lesion...

Well mine is kind of blue/green so I think they're both wrong....did I just say that??
