Does anyone know if the curve on part one changes that much. All I have is the 98 converter and I'm wondering if it will work on the older tests. I'm hoping it will give me a ballpark.

It typically stays about the same. You can actually get some heavy stats from the ADA website.
For the most part, however, that 98 curve will give you a fairly realistic viewpoint of where you stand. Generally, missing 40 will give you a 75, 30 an 85, and 15-20 a 95.
and then download the Technical Report pdf file. It has lots of interesting stats, most of which are towards the end of the report (such as # taking the exam, # failing each section, etc., etc.).
That's why it's easy to PASS the Boards, but pretty difficult to get a superb score. In my view, the Boards are arranged so that anybody who has a pulse and attends an ADA accredited institution will pass.
