Brand new EM attending here. Wondering about the best options for board review. I do like to have an information source + questions when reviewing (i.e. Book + Rosh) and I'm wondering what the best options are. So far looking at the AAEM book, Ohio ACEP CDs, NEMBR lectures, Rosh, and PEER. Which would you all recommend?

Also, is there any major benefit to physically going to one of these courses? I think I would be fine with the home study but don't want to miss anything if these have been amazing experiences for others.

Thanks for any assistance!

Okuda book and PEER 8 and 9 was all I needed to pass. Didn't even practice with a friend. But everyone's different. You know yourself.

I recommend Rosh Review.

I, like you, wanted to read a book before doing questions. So, I did First Aid for EM Boards. Not sure if it was beneficial or not. But, Rosh was great. I did some of PEER too, but Rosh alone will do the job too.

Also, the Attending version of Rosh is what I used, and I actually appreciated the repetition.

No. Not for the written boards. For the oral boards, I definitely recommend a course.

Good luck!

ROSH is all you need for the qual exam. I did one full pass through ROSH with very detailed note-taking (plus, at times, reference to outside sources if needed) on any question I missed / wasn't sure about. Did random blocks of 50 over and over again for 3 weeks. Ended up with about 600 pages of double-sided notes. Pretty much aced the written boards with this approach despite mediocre inservice scores while in residency.

Thanks for the helpful advice guys! Much appreciated. Still considering getting a review course and would like to hear some opinions on those if possible, but planning to get somewhat of a head start on this thing now.

You know yourself.

This right here.

For me:
Written: PEER (VIII then, IX now), Rosh.
Oral: Okuda (2ed), had decent prep when a resident, did mocks with a friend. Didn't use a course, know many who did and liked them -- mostly either in Illinois or via AAEM.
