Boards after 1st year

I am thinking about taking the first part of the boards after first year. Are you even allowed to? How long do you need to study for them? What else is important to know about it?

Does the administration approve students to take boards after first year?

Don't know but before I go and ask them if I can I wanted some info pros and cons.

It's better to take it end of first year and get it out of the way. However it's not up to you; it's the schools decision. At NOVA we took after first year and it worked out great

depends on the school you go to. If the schools curriculum is designed for you to take it after 2nd year, then (from what I was told by some schools) thats how you do it.

For example: When I interviewed at buffalo, I asked them this very question. Buffalo is a traditional part-1 after 2nd year school.... they told me that a student who has not completed the classes covered in part 1 is not allowed to take the test, so simply finishing up first year there isn't enough.

We took it after the first year (most in August) and I felt that we were adequately prepared. The only advantage I would see to taking it 2nd year is that your understanding of occlusion increases a bit, but you have to think about how much your biomedical sciences knowledge is going to decay if you're not keeping up with it. The first summer tends to be light at most schools that have classes during it, so it's a pretty good time to study.

if you take it this summer, you'll get a numerical grade. If you wait till 2012, it'll be P/F which, in my opinion, would be much less stressful.
