PGY-3 about to take the Boards. Anyone have general advice as to which two modules to pick? I figure that residency exposure/preparation is probably greatest for ambulatory and inpatient? Thanks!

It's been addressed in some other threads.
I've been told ambulatory and OB, although inpatient sounds reasonable too

Anybody taken Geriatrics and/or Hospital Medicine? We do so much of both in my residency that I'm leaning this way but I've heard they can both be rough.

I did inpatient and Ambulatory. Both were fairly straightforward. I've heard for geriatrics that you have to be well versed in all the various tests of function (Get-up-and-go being the easiest of those) and mental status. For OB you have to know precisely the diagnostic criteria for all the usual problems (GDM, pre-eclampsia) as well as I'm told a decent bit about fetal development by gestational age.

Fetal development?
Ugh.

Passed.

Future readers.. I picked Geri and Ambulatory.

Geri was definitely harder than Ambulatory.. during the exam. The scores say otherwise.

If it matters to anyone anywhere, I got a 530. Average resident, nothing crazy. Just for reference.. my ITE was 480.

Picked OB and ambulatory
Scored pretty close to each other. I think ambulatory was infinitesimally easier and the curve as a result not as generous.
I passed comfortably, scored about 30pts higher than my last ITE score.

I took Sports and Amb. I had a huge amount of sports exposure though. Thought amb was harder than normal (maybe spent too much time in residency doing sports). In retrospect I would choose Sports/ Urgent care/emerg. Prob could have gotten better than 600 with that combo. My last ITE was I think 540 and scored around 480 ish. I was super tired and did not study much before my exam due to owing floor months plus extra call days that I used to interview for fellowship. Just though anyone going for sports would like to know.

I chose inpatient and ER. I think its what you feel most comfortable with. We had a inpt heavy residency and I loved ER at the time, so my choice was easy.

I did OB and Geri. Scored 500 and 580 respectfully. I thought I knew maternity care better but felt it was more operative oriented than I was exposed to in residency.

I did around 440 on my ITEs all 3 years. I retook the ITEs as a baseline before I started studying and averaged 650-700.

Got a 540 on the exam.

I felt the same way about maternity.
