Which boards are recognized by which regions? I remember seeing a couple of posts about this once before. I recall that if you pass...say...the western or eastern states boards (if that is what they're called), you are not confined to practice solely in those states. You can actually practice in other states that might not be in your region, but have some kind of deal where they recognize boards from out of the area. Does anyone have any info on this?

Does anyone else think it's a bit ridiculous that the dental profession has not done more to standardize liscensure nationally to promote a new dentist's mobility within the US?
As you may have noticed, taking multiple board exams is completely stressful and VERY expensive....

jenn32,
I think the new, younger generation of dentists are trying hard to make mobility of dentists across the USA much easier. The WREB/CRDTS mutual recognition only happened 2 or 3 years ago. ASDA pushed for NERB and SRTA to mutually recognize each other like WREB and CRDTS did, but NERB would have nothing to do with it (surprise, surprise). From what I understand, the roadblocks are from the old-timer dentists who run the various regional boards - these exams are a major source of $$$ and vacation hangouts for them, and dentists who want to limit the number of dentists coming into their states to control the competition (Florida comes to mind here).
On a side note, I just finished watching the video for the NERB exam that will be shown tomorrow morning and I can't believe that we are being subject to this ridiculous excercise in order to get licensed. What's with all the paperwork and checks and color coding? The guy on that video acts like this is a completely objective, fair, unbiased exam. WHATEVER!!! I feel bad for dentists like jenn32, b/c they have already been practicing dentistry for some time now in the USA and now have to go through this NERB nonsense to practice in a NERB state even though they're obviously competent in some other part of the country. The more I think about it, the more it angers me because it is SO RIDICULOUS AND UNNECESSARY, so I've just stopped thinking about the NERB and will deal with it tomorrow when I get there.
Some of my friends saw the examiners at school today getting prepared for tomorrow, and the best adjective they could come up with to describe them was "Old. Like real old."

..Tell me all about it! It's like, "Ok, this test is about jumping through hoops. Wasn't that the point of my dental education;-)?"
But don't even get me started or my blood pressure will rise again. I hope things went well for you, as well as they possibly can.
Remind me to tell you my most recent NERB story after I get my scores back..lol...
