I'm starting terminal clinicals in May 2022, graduating December 2022. Was considering studying a ton on weekends/after the day is done and taking boards in October 2022 before my graduation- is that totally stupid?

Not stupid at all!
Make sure your state allows you to take boards before your graduation.
