Everyone is always talking about the "whole package". Oh you got a 35 on the MCAT, grats, you still need the bloody "whole package" to get into a (good) medschool.

What the hell is this "complete package"?

Which brings me to Bob. Bob is the complete package. Only as I just said, I have no idea what it is that Bob is.

help?

Let me start:

Bob has a 45T on the MCAT and a 4.0 GPA from... Yale(?). (Harvard?)

Err, a 43 is more likely than a 45.

4.0 from MIT. 2 first authors in Nature.

I'm guessing that when most people refer to the "complete package", they are saying that in addition to awesome grades and MCAT scores, a successful matriculant will have several years worth of great EC's that include earth-shattering, Mother Teresa-type volunteer experiences, real hands-on research that leads to abstracts, presentations, or publications, and solid clinical exposure, as well as dabbling in the arts and sports. And on top of that they have to interview well, be on top of current medical and ethics issues, demonstrate great communication/listening skills, and show a true desire to enter into medicine as a lifelong profession.

don't forget about the year and a half he spent with AIDS orphans in Uganda of which he adopted 2. The boy he named tyrosine and the girl adenine.

There it is. That's all that needs to be said. 👍

Just a side point, but is Bob an African-American female? I mean statistically do more female minorities get in than others?

Bob is not. He is an eskimo pacific islander. He is the first person in his family to be literate, let alone college educated. (not a slam on the inuits or tongans, Bob has a sad family, that's all). He doesn't need any assistance from AA, but he's going to cash in by gum!

No. Bob didn't bother me. Its generic and known to be generic. Sorry if your name is Bob.

I think of complete package alot like some of the posters on here. Just someone with solid stats:

MCAT: 32-33+
GPA: 3.6-3.7+
2-3 years of solid EC's and/or research

But not everyone has to have all of those to get in, but that is someone with an excellent chance.

I don't know about more female minorities, but I know that at USF COM there are 65 FEMALES and 55 MALES and its been similar in numbers for the past few years. Generally more females then males.

sometimes, i wish there was a button you press that says if you have it, your in. if not, you will be deemed for further evaluation.

Ahh yes...the B-O-B. Well, if you want to physically be ill at what accomplishments some people are capable of...click on the link and then search "recent scholars". I don't know about you but being a triple major in crazy hard majors and then excelling at both sports and music!?! Oh..and I love that they have "free time" to find hobbies like cooking enjoyable😉 Amazing stuff. Luckily, most of these kids are not our competition to get into med school.

Don't tell me Bob is a 7 year old eskimo with 2 Ph.Ds 🙁

Bob:

Your ideal med school applicant is Jesus... but a little more selfless. And a 3.9 GPA. And 41 MCAT. And he's a URM. Oh, and Jesus probably should have done some research.

Actually, Jesus wouldn't apply to med school because he doesn't need med school to heal people. Who wants to go through 8 years of training when you have super-powers?

Better yet, Jesus should give the cure for cancer, diabetes, AIDs and all other incurable diseases.

I was thinking "Bob the Builder" You can tell I have kids.

When being ported to Japan, it was reported that characters of Bob the Builder would be doctored to have five fingers instead of the original four. This was because of a practice among the Yakuza, the famed Japanese mafia, where members would "cut off their little fingers as a sign they can be trusted and have strength of character. wiki

Wow. Or they could just adapt the show to Japanese culture and make it "Bob the Yakuza Gangster." 👍

He needed to or else he'd be very vulnerable to litigation....

Man I'm glad I read through this thread. There is some good stuff!!!

Ah, but you forgot about the lepers. Counts both as research and clinical experience. Jesus also has basic science bench work examining water/wine transformation.

Bob is also fluent in Mandarin, Spanish, Swahili, and French, and has been learning a bit of Urdu lately too. He was a candidate for Governor of California, and came in 20th place - not bad for his first try.

Especially since training for the Summer Olympics (Long Jump AND Swim Team) cut into his time on the campaign trail.

Don't forget the prosthetic legs he made by hand for cambodian land mine victims. He found that making them by hand added a personal touch.

Bob also has a study group that he secretly hides from to get some extra studying time. When test scores are revealed, Bob aces every test because he used his group to stay a step ahead while they score in the middle of the bell curve. His study group always wonders why he does so well...and never realize that they were only a tool to Bob's success.

Oh, and Bob plays the oboe.

I heard that the legs were made out of bamboo, since Bob is really into the environment and recognized that bamboo is a very renewable resource.

Haha not as renewable as you might think; when a farmer grows crops, or in this case, bamboo, s/he is using farming trucks, fetilizers, etc. And these tools run on... gas! Without them you wouln't grow too much.

Bob, however, is smart. 🙂 He grows bamboo shoots in his backyard without the use of any machinery.
