from my understanding it is 45 days long, mandatory, in san antonio texas and happens at the end of 2nd year. How much does it overlap with board studying? 45 days is a big chunk of time at the end of the year...

I know people who did it at end of MS1. That's usually when you have your summer. Most schools are not going to give you the time after MS2 outside of your dedicated study time to attend school. MS3 starts soon after the dedicated period ends.
