so my gig has a reasonable base salary and a potentially significant bonus at the end of the year based on billing. I do billin daily - turn in a sheet of patients seen and the codes used. How would I know what is actually collected for me? Do most groups typically send out a monthly report? I know a previous job mentioned that the group would send out a monthly statement confidentially that was accountant certified is what rah person collected but I did not even think to ask about that in this group. Curious to know how it works in other groups? I am not partner obviously. Employed with base and bonus - bonus percentages are spelled out in contract. I have a rough idea of what I bill daily thus.

This isn't really a residency issue. In any case, it will completely depend upon your practice. They should be able to generate reports. You should clarify whether your bonus is based upon collections (i.e. dollars), or RVU's. The former is totally dependent upon your insurance mix, the latter depends only on your billing codes. You should have an office business manager -- they are the person to ask. There can be a delay in reporting, depending upon how the codes are entered.

Sorry. I was not sure where to post it. Transitioning from resident to attending sometimes is challenging.

As an employee, you absolutely should have access to your payor mix, your actual reimbursement, average reimbursement by code, any overhead, etc. Your office manager should help you contact billing (if in house or contracted out).

Furthermore, I would venture that your employer should be mentoring you, sitting down with you and talking about goals, how you're doing, whether you're on track, etc.

Finally, if you wish, you can undergo Physician Verification via our Help Desk which will give you access to the Practicing Physicians forum.

How does the physician verification thing work? I would be interested in that to access the practicing physicians forum.

You submit a copy of your license or something else that confirms you're a physician and they'll give you the badge. It's kept confidential thereafter.
