Quick question... Will publishing a chapter in a Medical dermatology textbook be held to the same level as a journal publication? Are they all seem the same as far as PDs are concerned?

Quick question... Will publishing a chapter in a Medical dermatology textbook be held to the same level as a journal publication? Are they all seem the same as far as PDs are concerned?

In general, a journal publication is looked upon more favorably. But it obviously depends what kind of journal publication vs what kind of chapter in which textbook. A big part of this is also what is the student's true contribution to the publication and how intelligently/enthusiastically they can convey their role during the interviews.
