I'm just opened my first aid... and I don't really understand much of anything I noticed since it's just a list pretty much. Everything looks very foreign to me.. Is there a book that explains first aid?? [So I don't have to spend hours searching thru many many books?] Thank you!

first aid basic sciences is your best bet. it's basically an expanded version of first aid that functions as a textbook you can use alongside your coursework. i used the first edition of the general principles book during part of m1 and it was riddled with errors but apparently the second editions are cleaned up.

general principles - http://www.amazon.com/First-Sciences-General-Principles-Second/dp/007174388X

organ systems - http://www.amazon.com/First-Aid-Bas...43952/ref=bxgy_cc_b_img_b/183-9182023-1096215

Well yea. I'm 1 class away from finishing second year. I am done w renal block, so I was looking at renal, but I don't recognize a lot of the things in first aid. And since they don't explain it.. that doesn't help. And I also looked at past blocks.. but I forgot everything lol...

I'll take a look at first aid organ systems.. hope it helps

during my second year class in the Reproductive block, the director of OBGYN was teaching a course about the menstrual cycle. When students were arguing about the most common cause of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, the professor asked us if we had saw the required reading.

One student said: "It's anovulation. First Aid said so."

The professor quips: "First Aid is not required reading."

Anyway those are expensive books... Send me a PM for more details

I didn't really understand what First Aid was about and how to properly utilize it as a resource until I used DIT.

I would recommend annotating FA while watching DIT. It will show you how indepth you actually need to know the topics in FA and drill them in your head. A good guide.

Just FYI, I read through the general principles book and wrote a review of it in a thread on this forum. Check it out for anyone who's checking out these texts (also got the organ systems book but probably won't be using that as Pathoma and FA do a pretty good job IMO).

If you're struggling with a specific organ, I would recommend Pathoma. He does an excellent job of not only covering Path but usually ties in HY phys/anat/and even applicable embryo
