Any recommendations for books on:

a) the science of addiction

b) the process of addiction treatment (from a provider standpoint, ie: not a self-help book)

Thanks!

I supervise our residents' addiction rotation. Here's their list:

Required Reading:

Motivational Interviewing, Miller and Rollnick, Chapters 3-- "Facilitating Change", 4--"What is Motivational Interviewing", and 6--"Building Motivation for Change".
I strongly recommend purchasing and reading this entire book.
If an opportunity presents itself for hands-on training in this technique, it should NOT be missed!

"The Big Book" (Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How Many Thousands of Men and Women Have Recovered from Alcoholism) , Chapter 5 "How it Works"
