Books to read to prepare for interviews (yes I searched)

I did look at the similar threads from the previous years, and have compiled an initial list of 2 or 3 books. Many of them are about the experience of being a doctor, but my weakness is on the current state of policies surrounding medicine after the recent "reforms" and whatnot. I didn't keep up with it as well as I should, it was really frustrating at times. Now that the dust has settled a bit, are there any new books out there that fairly address the current situation?

I would like to avoid really biased accounts, from people either trying to sell the plan or attack it (which is the majority of the books I have found). So has anybody read any good and comprehensive reviews that could help us understand the situation? Thanks!

Why don't you just read past and recent news articles from several different news sites? That should be enough to give you an okay understanding. I'd be surprised if they wanted you to go on a long discourse about healthcare reform during your interview. You shouldn't need a comprehensive understanding of it.

More than for interviews, I also want to know for myself and just be informed enough to actually have an opinion. It's sooooooo hard to find an unbiased news outlet these days, and it makes me angry to read the majority of what's out there. But yes it looks like we might have to do that!

Understanding Health Policy: A Clinical Approach by Thomas Bodenheimer. Very good book. I'm halfway through it currently and it's increased my understanding of the health care system significantly. It's a short read too. Only a little more than 200 pages. It doesn't have the recent reform stuff though.

You won't find any unbiased sources regarding health care reform, etc.

Getting Health Reform Right: A Guide to Improving Performance and Equity by Roberts, Hsiao, Berman, & Reich may be a bit too technical, but can give you the tools to analyze various health plans and reform efforts, including the recent US legislation. It is written to guide reformers throughout the world--from wealthy nations to poor ones--so if you are interested in global development and the challenges developing nations face with regard to health systems, this book can also be helpful. Some of the authors have been instrumental in overhauling health systems in various countries, so they have a high level of technical expertise and experience.

I got a book, but nothing was really useful. What I found to be the most helpful was:

-University of Washington Bioethics webpage
-The interview feedback page on SDN
-Do a google search on healthcare reform and the economy if you aren't very well versed in it. Just have a general understanding. The interview question regarding HCR I have found, was just to see if you had a general understanding, and then to see if you can support an argument (any argument) and have a backbone without being impolite, lol

Out of all the things I did to prepare for interviews, this book helped the most. I even took the liberty of finding it on half.com, and for $0.75 it's a steal.
