I am going to be taking a kaplan course in Feb.. but I wanted to start hitting the books in January, and at least be somewhat prepared for my practice test on the 1st day of kaplan....

I have the kaplan book, however I dont really feel like reading it on my own if we are just going to be going through it in class... id rather spend my time on something else

I was thinking of getting the Scham's, now, I've heard mixed reviews on them.. but I just need some basic review because I don't remember anything from those courses...

Which should I get?
Outline of Bio and
Outline of Shaum's Outline Of General, Organic and Biological Chemistry (one book)

or is there another book someone thinks would be better?

What about AudioLearn DAT? is that worth anything?

Hi, i would recommend u get the cliffs AP Bio book, destroyer, and a supplemental sat 2 math workbook. I have taken the kaplan course n personally i think it is only good for the PAT section. anyways good luck with everything 🙂

isnt destroyer only problems? or is it concepts too.. i feel like i am starting from square 1

It all depends on what square one means for you...When i started studying for the dat back in june (i took it in august), I hadn't taken bio in 3 years. Schaum's is an excellent review book and is very thorough and compact, but I found it really hard to follow without a good background in the material-for me, square one meant reading over a bio 101 text book. I don't know about review books for the chems. At the end of the day though, you're gonna want to make sure you learn the destroyer in and out-the book does a great job of reviewing the material that lands on the DAT in all 3 science sections. I didnt take the kaplan course so i can't comment on it, but the book is completely ineffective in teaching you the material they ask about on the DAT. Hope that helps

DAT 8/17
bio 21
chem 26
orgo 22

I started my studies with the kaplan blue book. After I got that down then I branched out into Cliff's AP Bio, my bio text, Destroyer, Topscore and Achiever. I still used blue book for the basis of my orgo and gchem. Sometimes I had to refer to my ochem text as Kaplan doesn't have all the reactions you have to know like Diel's Alder.

I'm on the same page with this man.

Pretty much sums up how I started off in about the same order, only utilizing gchem and ochem texts when necessary while reading Kaplan Blue book.
