I'm a bit confused about the extension of cubes that are not visible. From the question I would expect the cube shown to extend all the way to the far right corner but in the 3d image it does not, am I missing something?

I think the correct way to think about it is, if you cant see it, theres nothing there, UNLESS its a piece below an elevated cube, then there is "invisible" cube there.

Actually, your two views are different from one another. If you rotate your 3D one 90* to the right, the views will match up, and you will find that your "missing cube" in your 2D view is actually on the front side of your 3D view. Hope this helps!

You should try to rotate the 3D view to match the orientation of the question a little more closely, but as raysoflight pointed out - you don't assume cubes exist that aren't visible. You can see a piece of the cube your arrow is pointing to so you know that one exists, but there's no reason to assume there are any other cubes extending behind it.
