In test 5 of Ochem, #23 and #24 seem to be conflicting each other... In #23, you choose the sp3 hybridized carbon to remove a hydrogen from instead of the sp2 carbons. Then in #24 you remove the hydrogen from the sp hybridized carbon. I got both questions correct but when I was going through the questions I started getting confused. Following the CARDIO rule, you should take a hydrogen off of a sp2 carbon before an sp3... can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

Edit: Is it an exception only because it provides resonance/aromaticity?

It's most likely an allylic hydrogen testing your knowledge of resonance

In #23, removing the sp3 carbon makes the structure aromatic, giving it extra stability.
In #24, NaH treatment of alkene is a frequently used step to make good nucleophiles. And other H, once removed, doesn't seem to give very stable structures.

That's my take.
Btw, what's CARDIO rule?
