Does any one know why the answer is 38300! I guess on the answer but I need to know the reason!

You start by finding out the surface area of the basketball in square inches. To accomplish this, use the formula for surface area of a sphere (which it tells you). Remember order of operations, which means you square that 5 in parenthesis before doing anything else.

Now we know how many square inches we have (100 times pi) Next, we know that there is 122 dots on each square inch of the basketball, so we multiply 122 by the number of square inches we calculated (100 times pi)
