boring

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Give it a few days. As soon as the match ends, they'll be running up here to see who is going where...

I must say "thanks" to all the fellow residents who have stayed on to give advice and etc.

this forum sure does get boring after everyone turns in their rank lists...

other than sharing our list in rank order...what else can we chat about?
maybe we can discuss why a certain prgm. was not ranked or ranked at the bottom of our list. maybe we can discuss hidden gem prgms. or we can start one of those rambling EM "Rearview Mirror" threads to bump our lackluster views numbers.

Perhaps we can start discussing the performance of each Idol participant or better yet the Girlicious girl 😀

The flow seems pretty normal right now.

now that is what I'm talking about!! God, I wish Amanda Overmeyer would go home, is she actually singing? Does she smoke an entire carton of Marlboro's before she hops on stage? How about Kristy's version of 8 days a week? Wow...honky tonk USA. Castro, Brooke and David Cook were amazing👍

Does anyone have any Grey's anatony type stories from their clerkship/residency programs? Those are ALWAYS interesting

hey, new member here. i'm currently a MS3 planning on going into ob-gyn. just thought i'd suggest that all the bored MS4s could write some more residency reviews to pass the time until next week! 🙂

I'll try to help with the boredom by asking for more advice...so we're scheduling our 4th year now, and it turns out there are a TON of people in my class applying for ob/gyn, and therefore a ton of people who want gyn electives in the first few blocks- and I'm not one of the ones who got one. I'm applying for one away already. Should I look for a 2nd away to hopefully get letters? Will it look bad if all my ob/gyn letters are from institutions other than my home program? At least one program I plan to apply to requires a chair's letter, which will be just a generic recitation of my grades and clinical evals if I don't do any rotations at my home program, and I'm not sure how that will end up looking.

Anyone have any advice?

can you get a letter from an attending or the clerkship director from your 3rd year clerkship? are there any open ob electives? the only obgyn rotations i did before the interview season were my clerkship and my AI (acting internship) at my home institution. i did no away rotations b/c i didn't have one absolute place i wanted to be, and i was not interested in the added expenses and the month long interview. i got letters from the chairman, the clerkship director and PD at my home residency program. i also got a IM letter to balance it all out a bit. it seemed as if most of the programs i applied to required a chairman's letter. have you checked out the apgo dB yet?

i agree that we need more interview impressions (anonymous or not). there are tons of ppl. representing ohio, but let's see some representation from the other states also.

I did my clerkship almost a year ago, at an affiliated community hospital, so none of the faculty have academic titles, even if they did remember me. The only ob/gyn rotations in 4th year for us are electives- no AIs available. As far as the chair's letter, i'm hoping he can write up some generic thing, since I wouldn't have face time with him even if I did a rotation at my home program. I feel like I'm being overly dramatic, but I really do think this is going to adversely affect my appplications.

It's cold in Ohio, come down to Florida (Orlando) and do a sub I. We have a gorgeous hospital, do almost 15,000 deliveries a year and have a great group of residents and faculty and on your day off you can go to the theme parks or the beach.

While academic titles are helpful, I think that a strong letter of recommendation can overcome a lot. As for not getting an elective, I agree with other posters that it is not necessary to have completed multiple electives prior to interview season. I understand the feeling that you don't have enough letters. It is not unusual for chairs to write letters for folks they have little personal knowledge of. I would recommend that you schedule an appointment with your him/her to discuss your career plans when you ask for a letter. It is helpful to have your personal statement and CV drafted so that you can provide these to any letter writers. Most programs want 3-4 letters. I obtained letters from my chairman, an Ob/Gyn faculty member, one IM faculty, and one neonatologist. Good luck to all!
