Borrowed a Kaplan MCAT set. Should I bother with any other MCAT materials?

I borrowed Kaplan MCAT set from my cousin. I am not sure if he used anything else but he scored a 38 on his MCAT. Should I get any other books? My weakness is verbal and physics.

I'd look in to The Berkeley Review books (they have a minimum of 10 passages per chapter), the Examkracker 1001 books, and Examkracker 101 Verbal Reasoning.

For your basic study materials NO...I assume it is the comprehensive set which is solid prep. The only other thing you might want to consider is getting some extra questions..like Examkrackers 1001 series..you can buy them seperately for each section...so for you prob just the physics and verbal...I did Kaplan's Qbank online...loved it but its expensive.

I really don't want to spend $300+ on BR and EK which is what most people here are using. Kaplan seems to be at the bottom.

Yes, you'll have to get additional books. Kaplan is the weakest out of the major prep companies in every category, but the worst part is your lack of practice passages. Your cousin took Kaplan's course which gave him access to their online practice material. This is vital. You must take tons of practice passages to prepare for the MCAT.

One of the big reasons BR is popular is because it's tops for content review in most categories AND it contains lots of practice passages.

I'd spend the money on getting the best resources available to give yourself the best chance at doing well. To help bring down the cost, you could try to buy your books from someone. The popular books usually pop up in the For Sale forum.

Yeah you really need to have the online access for the Kaplan stuff. You get a bunch of full lengths and tons of practice questions with that. Otherwise you only have a few in chapter examples and like 10-15 end of chapter questions in the book.

The Kaplan books aren't bad but you should supplement with the EK 1001/101 for practice and maybe pickup a BR or EK book to do some extra review in the subjects you are the weakest in.
