Can you all tell me what are some things that you all really love and hate about BU? Please be very honest!
Things I love about BU as a 1st year, 1st semester student..
1) I really love the flexibility of the administration and how well our class officers work with them.
ie, we just had an anatomy test today, and will be having a physiology test on monday. Some people suggested moving the physio test, and our class officers really tried their best to move it! I mean, they really REALLY tried, and almost succeeded except for a hiccup.
2) Most course directors and professors so far kick some serious ass - they are really nice and really care about the students.
our anatomy course director - she is just an awesome professor! Every time she draws out the brainstem and spinal cord section on the chalk board with both of her hands at the same time, I want to scream out, "Goddamnit, you KICK ASS!"
physio professors - most of them are very good, especially the "young" professor who taught us about muscle & blood flow... he is so damn energetic and excited about muscle, he makes you wanna learn about muscle ! He literally bounces with excitement as he talks about how the heart works and how magical it is.
Biochem course director is pretty nice (though her test questions on the simplest things are the trickiest I've ever encountered). She brought us candies on Halloween, read a remembrance letter she wrote about 9/11, and introduces each new professor with a lot of enthusiasm!
I can go on about other professors - but in essence, they're all very good profs and enthusiastic about their subject.
3) Staggered exams instead of blocked. I dunno about others, but I just crammed for my anatomy exam for 2~3 days straight and did relatively well on it (better than last time anyway).
4) Friendliness of the staff! The dean of academic affair seem really approachable, and I feel if I had an issue, I can take it up to him without any problems. But then, I can always just email my class prez - he is a good communicator for the class too.
so... now for some things I hate...
1) Trivial: the seats are too close together! GAH I want a bigger class room!
2) Trivial: They need to podcast every single lecture! The IT people need to get their stuff together.
3) ... the tuition? it's 50k a semester, and not something easily swallowed.
There's really nothing to complain about -- not until I get to 3rd year and feel the tremendous pressure of trying to get signatures while the patient is waiting.
