Anyone catch this the other night? I just watched it online. I doubt many of you have seen it, what with you seeing enough medicine at work...🙄

New documentary on ABC, following staff at MGH, B&W and Boston's Children. Opening scene had an ER resident failing an intubation and attending anesthesiologist stepping in and saying, "I'm attending Anesthesiologist, maybe I can get that airway for you." Tube. Bag. Resident had a hard time dealing with getting pulled off the procedure, she seems very sharp and smart.

Then later, during a dialysis code, same ER resident, who as I said, seems very smart, got talked to by Anesthesia for not running code "properly" and calling Anesthesia asap for difficult intubation (obese), patient ultimately died, granted Anesthesia mentioned they didn't think the course would have changed much in this patient with a tube in quickly...

Anyway, it's good docu stuff, following some interesting docs, like the resident, who add to the flavor of it all.

Here's the link for 1st episode.

Woe is me pina patel.

She sucks at airway, screwed up two situations....and the ER guys back her up in the first one? She didn't run that code worth crap.

Just cos she's cute, they are trying to make us feel bad for her. She's in way over her head and for a senior ER resident, pretty pathetic.

BTW, it was nephrology who said it wouldn't have made a difference in the long run..but if she had an airway, it would have made quite a difference.

Pina mucked it up with a miller 3 several times while ignoring the situation.

Next! 👎

Man, what a snoozer of a show. They need to watch a few episodes of ER and pick this thing up. Doors have to crash open, gloves snapping off, residents banging nurses in closets, etc. You get the idea. Get some fast paced drama music, not this elevator crap they play, Where are the docs running around frantically yelling cliches like, "Saving lives is our job!!! Failure is not an option!!!"

This show is going to kill our rap with the ladies. They're going to see we actually work in really really boring environments, not the cool TV environments they fantasize about us in.

She's annoying. And dumb.

There's not very much charisma in Boston, is there?

Well...premed boy wasn't gonna come in here and shoot down Dr. Patel, but I understand what you're all saying! Wasn't the most glowing view of her.

Narcotized: Funny stuff. I think you were expecting Grey's Anatomy... 😀

Saw that. Unless you're a tenured professor like some of the veterans in here, I wouldn't go around trying to intubate patients with a miller 3.

Yes but after the Brigham anes attending yells at her for not having backup you can see him in the background trying to intubate the patient with a fiberoptic bronch. Presumably, HE couldn't DL the patient either! It also sounded like the anes resident covering airway wasnt there so she made her best effort. Yeah, ok, shes not an anesthesiologist, but ease up folks.

"I'm not here to teach residents." That's classic, considering it is a teaching hospital. I wonder if the anesthesia department will have a talk with him for saying something so dumb on national TV.

I think it was actually a black female, but you're right, I was shocked when I heard that. As someone appyling this year it didn't leave a great impression of MGH anesthesia

Ease up?

LOL

The attending needed a FOB cos she bloodied the airway with a miller 3.

What, the anesthesia resident is to blame for not only her poor airway skills (times 2) but also her poor code management?

Pathetic pina patel.

Maybe she meant to say "I'm not here to teach [ED] residents."

Not to continue bagging on poor PP, but I didn't have much confidence in her from the start when she first wondered aloud how she even matched to a Harvard hospital, then followed by saying traumas are nerve-wracking.

Ummmm.....you're an ED resident. That's your bread and butter. If I had to guess, I think she is pretty early in the training process.

I don't think so. Usually if the airway is bloody the last thing you want to do is use your fiberoptic scope. DL and Yankauer. But I presume he couldnt get a view either.

and the scene cut pretty quickly after she said the word "residents", as if that may not really have been the end of her sentence. i suspect some sleazy editing here.

I think it goes to show that you can be a resident at MGH/Harvard and still be a ******.

I can't force myself to watch anything medical when I'm home from work. You can keep all of this garbage!

I Laughed my butt off when I heard him say that...still makes me laugh...oh the irony :smack:

I caught this last Thurs.

Its like 50 mins of sappy edited drama typical of ABC (will the doctor make it to his daughters dance recital !?!?!111!) with interspersed views of Boston harbor, and 10 mins of actual medical awesomeness. I would rather watch them do paperwork.

Trauma: Life in the ER. Now that was a medical show for the ages.

If you notice, they cut them mid sentence when they said that.
