Looks like (per website) they're pretty cool about having folks rotate out for a month or so for experience (not pay), and that people often do.

Anyone with experience or info on this?

I think it might be instructive for a lot of people to see how labs like that work and operate. They obviously do a great business. There are a lot of path groups and hospitals around the country who are very bothered by that lab, perhaps for taking business, perhaps for certain business practices. These large labs do some different things with prostate cores than standard practice - they make the most use they can out of every piece of glass, block, etc.

I hate Bostwick labs. Nothing but disdain for the biz model, which commoditizes pathology services and turns us into cheap 5 dollar hookers.

Bostwick should really be ashamed of himself IMO. But Im sure the millions$$ are easing his conscience this very moment...

Well when I said they make the most out of every piece of glass and coverslip it wasn't really a compliment. Have seen some of the material as transfer cases - not so nice. I guess you get used to it if you have to.

The thing is though, quality isn't as important these days as efficiency and getting it right. Of course, how does one know that you are getting it right? Sometimes just getting an answer is as good as getting it right. Podlabs and megalabs base their whole business practice on the concept that people care more about cost and efficiency than they do about the "right" answer. But like you said in your post on consultations, delaying things one day can be detrimental, so efficiency can trump quality in some cases.

Just curious, does Dr. Greenberg pine away at a case until Appleman comes back from his vaca in Aruba or does he just sign the case out...seriously. He mans up, doesnt he?

I don't know who Dr Greenberg is. But if you're talking about the other GI people the only cases they routinely show around are dysplasia cases, mostly because they do lots of studies showing basically how meaningless it is to grade them. All 3 are very confident.

And yes, he is definitely the man. Would trust his opinion on anything GI over anyone in the world, including others in the department.

Greenson is sweet (as is Appelman). Greenson used to have some entertaining GI path youtube videos posted.

We had an upper level rotate there probably two years ago (Richmond's an hour away from here). I think he enjoyed the rotation and got to see a different way of doing things. I don't remember a lot of his specific thoughts though.

I spent a month there. Nice facility, large study sets. Pretty much self paced study. You hang out with fellows. Only sat down with Bostwick once, he was gone almost the whole month. And, that seemed more like a session of him trying to see if I was ripe to be one of the his minions. hehe. Not likely.

Totally agree with LADoc on the whole set up.

Has anyone rotated at the Arizona site?? Do all the site do a bit of everything, or are sites organ-focused?

How much you think this guy rakes in a year? I hear his revenues reach up into the hundreds of millions. Talk about ballin' out of control! How long do you think it took him to reach this level?

Dudes, I got really smashed over the weekend and I think I'm suffering from a severe case of neutrophil agnosia. I'm serious; I couldn't recognize any of the little critters today. Anyone know of any cures or am I Doomed.
