Hi,
I am engaged right now, and both my future husband and I are applying to med school for 2003.

Did anyone else apply to school with their spouse? Did you both get in? Are you applying now? I know its tough just getting in to med school, let alone both of us getting in the same school! At least the residency process works well for couples.

Any words of advice? Any ideas how the schools feel about couples applying together?
🙂
thanks,

Hmmm, I know there's someone out there who applied to the Medical College of Ohio (Toledo) and both she and her husband got in. I don't recall the her username but when the search function is back up you can look into it. In the mean time I'll try to rack my brain.

A couple I know both got into Yale! They'were accepted by other schools too, but they chose Yale so they can go together. I think that's a very wise dicision, because med students don't have a lot of time traveling to see significant others! Go ahead!

I met a couple (not married yet) who got into Wash U together. They applied to about 25 schools (a lot for midwestern students) and send admissions committees a letter as soon as one of them was offered an interview saying that they were a couple, and would really like to go to school together. They said they were really careful to not say that they wouldn't go unless they were both accepted, but only say that it was really important to them to stay together. This was against the advice of their pre-med advisor, and they thought some schools were turned-off by it, but Wash U told them that the letter did influence their decision to let them both in. If I remember correctly, the school waited to accept one of them until they had a spot for both. I know that being married rather than engaged would help your status at some places. I think you should both apply to a lot of schools, and also concentrate in cities that have a lot of schools (NY, Boston, Chicago), as that might be an okay alternative. Good luck.
