Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd start a thread for those interested in Botsford General Hospital OB/GYN program. If you're interested and have any questions, please feel free to post your questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

During the time I was applying for OB/GYN residency programs, I stumbled upon BGH and having spend two months here now... I can definitely say it's one of the unknown jewels of the AOA OB/GYN programs. A month into the program, I'm already running the labor and delivery board - delivering babies by myself, performing C-sections as first assist (open and close), doing all the circumcisions myself, etc....

Anyway, I'm here to answer any questions or concerns about BGH or any questions for those who are still debating over being an OB/GYN.

How competitive is your program? My board scores are not that good...and on top of that I'm going to do a couples match., so it's even tougher. What are my chances? I'm probably going to only apply DO, and a couple of MD's.
Any suggestion or advice for the up coming months? We'll keep in touch 🙂

Botsford is relatively competitive. The program takes 2-3 first years every year. Normally it's 2 "trackers" and one with a traditional year under their belt. For this up coming year, though, the program director is considering taking in up to 3 trackers... So it's definitely an opportuned time to apply to our program.

Botsford is the second oldest osteopathic hospital and has pride itself in a family atmosphere. The hospital is definitely ran by interns and residents and ALL the attending rely heavily on us to get this hospital going on a day to day basis.

So with that said, if you're really interested in our program... apply, get the interview and during the interview express your sincere interest. As per the couples match, I'm not sure if you're other person you're matching with will be matching in a program that is available at Botsford but if you both are... definitely express this during your interview and say that you both want to come here. Many programs look highly on getting couples because it guarantees that you both have support from each other and that two residents are guaranteed.

I have to keep this short as I'm about to start rounding... So if you have other specific questions please post away. I'll do my best to come back and give you some more advice.

Thanks for the heads up....both my fiance and i are going into ob/gyn so we're trying to match in a place that is willing to take two people. Again my scores are barely passing ...but my grades are a high B's....so hopefully it would give me some chances, but, maybe not much?. I'll definitely apply to Botsford....and we'll see how it goes...hopefully we can meet you. 🙂 thanks for the help.

If you haven't taken step 2... study like crazy, start asking for applications if you haven't yet as well as letters of recommendations (some programs have different forms for your letter writters to fill), and try to do rotations at the sites that you want most to go to for residency (show face).

Till then, sit back and relax and wait for those interview invites.

I thought all of the programs goes through ERAS? and I have letter of recs...but, it's just a letter. there are forms? damn..hahah....well..as for rotation, I'm doind one in Akron, ohio (md)...and one at good samaritan in ny, (DO)...it's close to the beach or so i've heard..haha....

well..my boards are terrible....took me three times to pass step 1....hopefully i'll do better on step 2....hopefully ob/gyn in general is not that competitive....i'm getting scared...🙂

Hi Katie!!!

Wonderful to hear from you... Oh yeah, I almost went to St. Joseph's myself but as you can see decided on Botsford. It's not too late to change right now. If you're interested in jumping into OB/GYN. I can tell you that our current chief was three months into her FP residency and decided to switch OB/GYN and they welcomed her here... She's graduating on time. If you need the hook ups and may want to switch over to join me here... let me know. Send me a PM and I can send you my personal contact info. I can't guarantee you anything but I can definitely talk to my chief and ob/gyn director...

I'm glad you've join us... No matter where you decide to do your OB/GYN that means we'll see each other at COGMET!!! That makes me extremely happy... 🙂
