Braces in dental school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
From what I've heard from students at some schools, Orthodontia is one of the only things that isn't heavily reduced for students, but you'd probably still get a significant discount compared to your local Ortho place.

Strange i don't have much idea about it. But most probably one might not be getting it totally free.

Invisalign is offered at a deep discount at UOP - I don't know about traditional braces though.

Comprehensive ortho, invisalign, endo (including molars), operative, crowns (except lab fees), srp's, crown lengthening, you name it, it's FREE! at my school.

I took advantage of this and ended up saving about $10-15k easy in the past 3 years.

Do dental students take any ortho cases, or are they mostly resident/faculty? Also, if a student is working on an invisalign case, is it hard to screw up?

Depends on the institution and the complexity of the case. I did my wife's orthodontics when I was in school, and I had a great faculty preceptor who really involved me in all phases of the case (which took just under two years from start to finish). It gave me a much greater appreciation for ortho than I had previously. Fees for resident-level cases are the same as for anyone else, but my wife's full ortho treatment cost us only $600.

Wow that must have been quite an experience being only a dental student. I wish my school would give us a bit more leeway when it comes to more advanced treatment plans.
