When you see ring enhancing lesions on CT MRI of the brain, what do you think? Can you add to the list?
Qbank says, S Aureus septic emboli emboli can be thrown from the left side of the heart and form brain abscesses. What are some of the other common causes of brain abscesses? right now, the list I can also think of:
1) S Aureus
2) AIDS pts. toxoplasmosis
and of course, DOC for most brain abscesses is: Rifampin (I think).
This was a good question on qbank because I forget and knee jerk reaction when I saw S Aureus was a I ruled it out b/c I associate that w/ IV Drug Abusers on the right side the heart.
