Brains vs. Personality

Lets get a new discussion started...

When it comes to dental admissions, which is more prime:

* Having the highest marks and grades with little or no activities (shadowing, volunteer hours, clubs, etc.)?

or 😀

* Having alright marks and grades with lots of activites?

Any thoughts?

in response to my own question, i would say personality (at least I hope); that's what I'm aiming for...

I think that's what got me in... good letters of rec helped too 🙂 my grades were definately that that spectacular 🙂

Brains get you into dental school...personality gets you the patients.

Also both brains and personality perform a synergistic effect for us dentists. Both are vital for our success.

100% correct assumtpion. Average score + great personality will have a way better chance than great scores and no personality. remember the admissions committee(many of whom are the clinical faculty at the school) wnats to have people that they'll like dealing with for 4 years, not folks that will annoy them for 4 years. The same thing applies often for residency admission too, the scores open the door, while the personallity will either slam it shut or give you the invite in!
