I read the wicket sick tutorial, but I'm really struggling with these type of problem. Please explain this to me like I'm a complete idiot and walk me through this.

My first question is about the circle in the top view. Is that a hole, or a tube on the very top? How do you tell?

is the answer A? You can tell its a hole by looking at the end view. If it were a Tube you would see it pointing out in the middle of the end view

Correct, it is A. This is from DATQvault free test.
That's very helpful, and I think I can see what you mean. If it was a tube, the end view might look something like?
(I simplified the top view and also ignored the endview)

My next question is about how you would get the answer. Am I correct that you got it solely from the topview? Did you ignore the endview?

I'm also not getting what it means with the partial solid+dashed lines. If someone can explain that as well, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I used both the top and end view to get to answer A.... you can't really ignore the end view....this is supposed to be a 3 dimensional object..so looking from only one view won't really work to get you the right answer.

for answer A, the far end is taller than the closer end, so for the hole in the object, you get parallel sold lines on the top half and parallel dotted lines on the bottom half (front view)

hope this helps

I think I get you. For me, I think it was a lot of help to draw try to draw it out.

Ignoring the right part of the Top view (I have no idea how to draw it):

Of course on the real test, there's no time to do it, but I think it's a good step in just learning how it works.

Yup, answer is A.. It took me a minute to figure it out..
But by process of elimination, you know it can't be the last two, because the hole in the middle doesn't show through the bottom half.
B is just flat out wrong.

If you can recognize this is a tube, by looking at the end view, you can almost immediately eliminate all of the answers except the correct choice. "A" is the only answer that shows the dashed lines on the left side of the object.

I've found for the TFEs, its often not necessary to totally envision the object. Pick distinct pieces and eliminate answer choices that do not adhere to the unique parts of the object. Do enough of them and you'll start to be able to envision the shapes just by looking at the projections.
